Golf
courses set in an area of this much natural beauty,
will always prove attractive to golfers what ever
their ability.
Imagine
then if that course is within 30 minutes of Dublin's
city centre, and the possibilities for relaxed enjoyment
become endless.
This
Nick Bielenberg designed course, built as it is to
the highest USGA standards, offers a challenge to
the competitive golfer, whilst still managing to
encourage the efforts of the more social player.
Compared
already by many to the creations of Braid, and Mackenzie,
the course starts gently enough as it skilfully meanders
through this picturesque valley. As each hole passes
the demands on the golfer increase ever so slightly.
This design was meant to tease and to test in equal
measure, and like a
fine symphony it reaches a magnificent crescendo to
finish. Why else would the designer test us so dramatically
on the final 5 holes?
A
course that has been chosen to host GUI events already
in its short history, seems destined for more events
in the future.
