Lady Captains Newsletter

Hi to all our Lady Golfers in South County Golf Club.

Well can you believe it – we’ve just had our 7th Annual Drive In!

I will take this opportunity to firstly thank everyone who made my drive-in one of the most memorable days of my life, Antoinette Daly, Taragh O’Kelly and all the social committee, Diana Jameson for the amazing photos and James Dillon for the “U Tube” video! I have a lot to treasure and remember from that day. All of your support and encouragement was never-ending and surely makes me realise why I’m so proud and honoured to be your Lady Captain for 2008.

The new season is upon us and there is an air of anticipation and excitement about the place. We start this very Sunday with the AA Foursomes match at South County against Bray, followed very swiftly by the Miele, Irish Mixed and the Mail on Sunday competitions, phew! What a start to the season. Please watch the notice board in the locker room for details of the matches. Anyone not playing in the match will be very welcome as a supporter on the day. I realise that it is only with your commitment to golf in SCGC that we can participate in these events. A big thank you goes to our Interclub Team Co-ordinator Karen Rothwell and Team Managers Joan Nordlokken, June Campbell, Chris Adams, Marie McLoughlin, Nuala Maher, Muriel Walls and Evelyn McGrath for their efforts to ensure it all happens smoothly.

The closing date for the club matchplay competitions is this Sunday. Please contact any member of the Committee to enter.

There are some new developments to the Ladies section this year – I’ve already mentioned the establishment of the role of INTERCLUB TEAM CO-ORDINATOR; secondly, the long awaited implementation of our new indices, probably somewhere in the next couple of weeks – thank you to Chris Adams for all her hard work in getting this to happen – and lastly, our acceptance into the Wicklow Winter Alliance starting in September. Karen will supply details of this in the near future. We are only having two Open Days this year, on 22nd May and 4th September, so we plan to make a concerted effort to make them a huge success.

A warm welcome to our new lady members, we look forward to meeting and supporting you. Please join us in all we do.

Kilternan Ladies are settling in well and appreciate all the generosity and effort made by you to making them feel welcome on the course and in the clubhouse.

Along with my committee, Chris, Mary, June, Fiona, Angela, Marie and Ann, we hope to be able to provide all you need to follow up on a successful winter season on the dry ice and play out of your skins to have another super year of golfing achievements in the Ladies’ section. We shall be having a couple of fun evenings so watch out for them.

Thanks again for everything. I will wear my jacket with pride and honour and be the best I can be for our Club.

I remain yours in golf
Lady Captain Liz
